STANLEY S. SMITLEY

STANLEY S. SMITLEY, 89, of Woodburn, died on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at his residence. He was born on Jan. 13, 1922, in Antwerp, Ohio. He retired in 1992 from Allen County CO-OP after 13 years. He previously had been a truck driver for Navejo and Ellis Trucklines. Surviving are his son, Robert (Cathy) Smitley of Lenexa, Kan.; daughters, Marilyn (Bill) Payton and Anna (Roy) Moyers, both of Fort Wayne; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and brother, Robert W. Smitley of Orange Park Grove, Fla. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma; son, Michael J. Smitley; and grandson, Matthew Smitley. Funeral service is 10 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2011, at Hockemeyer Funeral Home, Harlan, with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2011, at the funeral home. Burial in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Haven.

 

LILLIAN M. POWELL

LILLIAN M. POWELL, 90, of Woodburn, formerly of Van Wert, passed away Friday, March 18, 2011, at Parkview Hospice, Fort Wayne. Born in Kenosha, Wis. on July 31, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Mary (Lootens) and Bruno Persyn. She was a homemaker and a member of First United Brethren in Christ Church, Van Wert and the ladies auxiliary of Van Wert Camp of Gideons International. On Dec 23, 1942, she married Herbert Powell; he died March 7, 1988. She will be sadly missed by her children, Karl (Shirley) of Woodburn, Edward (Jan) of Roanoke, Marianne Knotts of Fort Wayne; siblings, Robert Persyn of Fort Wayne and Clara Reeb of Antwerp; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, John; sister, Estella Coonrod; grandson, Jeff. Service is 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Dooley Funeral Home, 202 W. River St., Antwerp, Ohio, with visitation one hour prior. Rev. Jody Harr will officiate. Visitation also from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2011, at Dooley Funeral Home. Burial in Scipio Cemetery. VIOLET E. KLOPFENSTEIN

VIOLET E. KLOPFENSTEIN, 88, of Fort Wayne, passed away Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 at Miller's Merry Manor in Garrett. Born Nov. 6, 1922 in Woodburn, she retired from G.E. She was a member of of the G.E. Elex Club. She is survived by daughter, Melanie (Larry) Shive of Auburn; grandsons, Ron (Shellie) Hahn of Noblesville and Tim (Marsha) Hahn of Garrett; five great-grandchildren; sisters, Marian Miller of Woodburn, Gloria (Arnold) Gerbers of Woodburn and Starlee (Al) Kelble of Paulding; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death sister, Edna Pardy; brother, Robert Miller. Visitation is 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Hockemeyer & Miller funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road. Graveside Service is immediately following visitation at the Bowers Cemetery.
